Hopewell Valley Central High School strives to provide a comprehensive instrumental music program. The Symphonic Band
is a curricular ensemble and extracurricular ensembles include the marching band, the jazz ensemble, the pit orchestra for the musical, and various small ensembles. The Symphonic Band consists of students in grades nine through twelve at Hopewell Valley Central High School. This ensemble participates in SEVERAL school performances a year including the Winter, March and Spring Concerts as well as the Graduation Ceremony held in June. The concert programs at Hopewell are under the direction of Mr. David Schwartzer

, Orchestra is a course that is geared primarily for string players who desire to learn and perform orchestral and chamber ensemble music. Select wind, brass and percussion players join with the strings to form the full orchestra for performances.
The Jazz Band at Hopewell Valley is an audition only ensemble. Students are strongly encouraged to be enrolled in the Symphonic Band to audition. The jazz “season” normally begins in November and continues through May.
The Jazz Band performs at school concerts and will additionally perform at adjudicated festivals throughout the year. You can also catch the jazz band performing at Pennington Day, touring the elementary schools in the Spring and a number of other events around the around the community.
The Hopewell Valley "Marching Black and Gold" is a marching ensemble comprised of students in grades 8 -12. The band rehearses 3 days a week after school and performs at local competitions, and home football games as well as other school and community events. Students do not have to be enrolled in one of the band classes to be a member. The marching band consists of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, as well as color guardmembers.
Recent highlights include performing on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
